Home | Lewis is the
largest of the islands with around 17 000 inhabitants and Stornoway is the
largest Town with a population of 8,000. The Islands have something to offer everyone. The Sanctuary seekers head here for the real feeling of isolation. The peace & tranquillity, dramatic scenery, miles of unspoilt beaches and aqua blue seas. Geologists are attracted to the Lewisian Gneiss, which at 3000 million years old, is among the oldest rock in the world. Archaeologists to the scattering of historical sights, such as the world famous neolithic Calanais Stones and the pictish Carloway Broch. Wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers come for the natural habitat, which is recognised as being of national and international importance and include areas of scientific interest and special protection. The coastal waters, peatlands & machair are home to many varieties of birds, mammals and plants including some rare species, such as the Puffin, Golden Eagle, Plovers, Corncrake, Basking Shark, Whale, Dolphin & Otter. |

Year round swells & reef breaks, challenging cliffs and mountain crags, deserted stretches of beach & undiscovered bays and coves. Culture & heritage seekers are charmed by the rich & distinctive celtic culture and strong sense of tradition. Crofting, peat-cutting, fishing & weaving Harris Tweed are still a large part of daily life. Gaelic is spoken and traditional music & dance are common at local Celidhs & Feisean and at many local venues. Stornoway is also home to the popular Hebridean Celtic Festival.
